Editorial policy

The standards that govern everything we publish.

Editorial independence

LeoPope is editorially independent. No outside body — religious, political or commercial — reviews or approves our coverage before publication. We are not affiliated with the Holy See or the Vatican. Where we hold a view, it appears in clearly labelled analysis, never in news reports.

Use of primary sources

We work from primary texts wherever they exist: the official record on Vatican.va, the Holy See Press Office bulletin, and full transcripts of speeches and documents. Reporting from news agencies is used for context and for events not yet in the official record, and is always attributed. See our sources policy for how we classify sources.

Quotation policy

  • We publish a direct quotation from Pope Leo XIV only when it can be traced to a primary or official source.
  • Every quote records its date, setting and source; quotes are linked to the full text where available.
  • We do not paraphrase and present the result inside quotation marks.
  • Editorial summaries of what the pope said are clearly distinct from quoted words.

Verification

Claims of fact are checked against at least one primary or official source, or two independent news sources. Dates, names, titles and numbers are verified individually. When a detail cannot be confirmed, we say so rather than imply certainty.

AI-assisted and AI-generated content

We may use software tools, including AI, to help with research, transcription, translation drafts, tagging and summarisation. A human editor is responsible for every published item. We do not publish AI-generated text as original reporting, and we do not use AI to fabricate quotes, sources or images.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and visibly. Significant corrections are logged on the corrections page with the date and nature of the change. Article pages show a “last updated” date.

Independence from the subject

Coverage of Pope Leo XIV is neither promotional nor adversarial by design. We aim to be accurate, proportionate and clear about what is known, disputed or unknown.
